Expert Group on Population Statistics
Mission
The Expert Group on Population Statistics covers statistics on population, vital events, migration and acquisition of citizenship. It assists and advises Eurostat, and discusses and proposes solutions to technical and methodological problems in the area of population statistics.
Task
• Assist the Commission in relation to the implementation of existing Union legislation, programmes and policies
• Assist the Commission in the preparation of delegated acts
• Assist the Commission in the preparation of legislative proposals and policy initiatives
• Coordinate with Member States, exchange of views
• Other (Implementation of statistical requirements regarding population, vital events, migration and acquisition of citizenship statistics;Harmonisation of methodological concepts; Evaluation and possible use of administrative and other data sources; Issues related to the transmission of data and metadata; Further developing the validation procedures and rules in the domain; Quality assessment of the data; Dissemination of population statistics; Implementation of improvement actions in the domain where needed; Contributions to international statistical initiatives aiming at improving methodology, quality and availability of statistics on population; Other topics of relevance to population statistics in the broad sense.)
• Provides expertise to the Commission when preparing implementing measures, i.e. before the Commission submits these draft measures to a comitology committee
