Tachograph data retention periods and download intervals – alignment

Transport operators must regularly download data from vehicles’ tachographs and driver cards to enable checks of driving and resting times at their premises. However, the intervals currently set for those downloads are shorter than the periods for which the tachograph and driver card are technically capable and legally required to retain the data. This initiative will align the download intervals with those retention periods, ensuring consistency and reducing operators’ administrative burden.

This initiative is part of a package and the Call for Evidence is shared. The main entry is Road transport smart enforcement and simplification.
