Tachograph software – Over-the-air updates for smart enforcement and simplification purposes

Smart tachographs must nowadays be taken to an approved workshop for every software update, although the latest generation of tachographs are capable of being updated remotely. This causes downtimes and gives rise to costs for operators. It also slows down the application of new enforcement rules across the EU fleet. This initiative would introduce secure over-the-air updates of second-generation smart tachographs, cutting workshop visit costs and enabling faster updates.

This initiative is part of a package and the Call for Evidence is shared. The main entry is Road transport smart enforcement and simplification.
