Expert Group on Food Losses and Food Waste:
Mission
Support both Commission and Member States in preventing and reducing food waste whilst ensuring safety of food and feed as well as protection of animal health. This informal expert group, composed of relevant organisations from Member States, will assist the Commission and Member States in identifying and prioritising actions to be taken at EU level to prevent food losses and food waste. Its work will be of a horizontal nature, aiming to identify opportunities for food waste prevention across the food production and consumption chain. The expert group will build on and complement work carried out with stakeholder organisations (economic operators in the food chain, consumer and other NGOs) since 2012 under the Advisory Group on the Food Chain, Animal and Plant health. While this expert group may discuss and recommend policy options, it is the relevant working groups of the Standing Committee on the Food Chain and Animal Health (or other regulatory committees) which would consider these issues further, in their respective areas of competence.
