Equidae: competitions and intra-Community trade
The European Union is taking action to remove disparities between Member States with regard to competitions as a step towards the completion of the internal market.
This Directive lays down the conditions governing trade in equidae intended for competitions and the conditions governing their participation therein.
The Directive defines the term 'competition' as any equestrian competition, including horse racing, show-jumping, eventing, dressage, events reserved for horse-drawn vehicles and showing classes.
Competition rules must not discriminate between equidae originating or registered in the country of the competition and equidae originating or registered in another Member State. However, this does not preclude the organisation of competitions reserved for equidae registered in a particular studbook or regional competitions for selection purposes.
